Some of those ingredients, like artificial sweeteners, hydrogenated oils and trans fats, have been linked to serious, life threatening diseases. Repeatedly, some products are cleverly disguised as healthy, natural foods, when in fact they are more processed junk foods.
Paying closer attention to how natural foods are manufactured increases awareness. Consumers can avoid becoming victims of advertiser’s manipulation by learning more about the differences between natural foods and processed foods. With the right information, it is easier to manage healthy weight, create more energy and develop a happier, healthier lifestyle without being led astray by clever ad campaigns.
With natural foods, the digestive system naturally knows how to efficiently break down the components using the appropriate amount of energy. On the flip side, foods that contain numerous additives take a longer amount of time to digest. They force the body to work harder to metabolize the additives. Natural foods not only provide the body with more usable energy, they are much easier on the digestive system.
Natural foods that contain artificial sweeteners are more troubling. The body creates insulin in order to break down glucose. This is not necessarily a big problem for natural foods that contain natural sugars. However, artificial sweeteners make the body believe it has consumed glucose. Insulin is then created, but can’t be used to break down the glucose that is not really there. Thus, the artificial sweetener has tricked the body and unused insulin is eventually stored in the liver. The more toxins that accumulate in the liver, the less fat that can be broken down. That’s why artificial sweeteners are believed to contribute to serious health problems such as obesity, and have been known to trigger certain cancers in the body.
Natural foods, especially fruits and vegetables, have been
proven to help lower the risks of contracting life-threatening diseases. Fiber is one of the most important elements often missing from the modern diet and it is abundant in many natural foods. Fiber helps protect the body against certain preventable diseases such as colon cancer, hemorrhoids, obesity, heart disease, high blood sugar and high cholesterol. In general, it pays to remember that natural foods are not processed with ingredients like preservatives, hydrogenated oils, trans fats, artificial sweeteners, artificial colors or flavors.
